keeping up with technology injection molding low-cost, high-Performance hot-runner controllers Plastic Engineering & Technical Services, Inc. (P.E.T.S.), Auburn Hills, Mich., has introduced the PHRS family of hot-runner temperature controllers, said to "provide outstanding performance at price levels far below any competitive offerings." These PID-controlled instruments come in a family of discrete units packaged in two to 18 zones for prices from $575 to $5200. The PHRS-GU enclosed versions with graphical user interface can be set up and controlled remotely via LAN network with an internet connection. The GU versions range from 12 to 96 zones at prices from$5800 to $22,600. All models come with 20-ft cables included. Particulates are emitted as flm exits the die. These particles are too heavy to stay airborne and be captured by conventional exhaust systems, so they typically settle on nearby equipment frames, railings, electrical components, or plant lighting. Situated between the die and air ring, the SES reportedly captures up to 80% of particles. The unit can be taken apart to clean. A large-format, inkjet-type 3D printer for large industrial prototypes has been launched by Stratasys Ltd., Eden Prairie, Minn. Featuring a 1000 x 800 x 500 mm (39.3 x 31.4 x 19.6 in.) build envelope, the Objet1000 is one of the few units on the market that can simultaneously jet two materials. It offers a choice of over 100 materials, including ABS-grade engineering plastics. It can print up to 14 different materials in a single part or mixed parts on the same build tray. Mitutoyo America Corp., Aurora, Ill., announces a new program that allows users to "package" certain coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) and vision systems with related equipment and service packages at no extra cost over the base price of the machine, representing an overall savings of more than $15,000. The program is available to U.S.-based companies for a limited time period throughout the year. Machines included in this program include: •CNC CMMs: Crysta-Plus series (400/500/700 models). •Manual CMMs: Crysta-Apex S CNC series (500/700/ 900/1200 models). •Vision machines: QV-Apex Pro, QV-Apex TP systems. Every machine group offers a "Gold Care" package that includes a second-year extended warranty covering all labor and part costs (industry standard is one year); a two-year calibration agreement (A2LA Accredited); fve-year technical phone support covering all of the machine's software; Mitutoyo's MeasurLink Pro Edition software package; and workholding/fxturing solutions (Eco-Fix for CMMs, Opti-Fix for vision machines). The package also offers a starter stylus kit for CMMs and vision systems with touch probes.
