Reifenhauser (U.S. office in Wichita, Kan.) will display a range of new products for blown film and flat film/sheet extrusion at K 2016 in Dusseldorf in October. For blown film, the firm will display its film-flattening unit—called the Ultra Flat—and a film-orientation device dubbed Ultra Stretch. Both products are integrated into the hauloff. In the case of Ultra Flat, Reifenhauser reports that improvements in film flatness across the entire width of the web allow converters to run printing presses 30% faster, while those involved in lamination can use 30% less glue. Reifenhauser will also debut a patented barrier-film die that is said to combine the attributes of stackable and conventional spiral-mandrel dies. Short flow paths are said to dramatically reduce residence times. For flat film and sheet, Reifenhauser will display REIcofeed 2.2, a new feedblock design for 11 layers or more that relies on a tiny element that permits layer encapsulation inside the feedblock. This reportedly avoids the need for an additional encapsulation device in the die and the use of an additional extruder. Reifenhauser also will show a short extruder with redesigned gearbox and motor. No further details were provided. Lenses on smartphone, vehicle, and security cameras are increasingly shifting from glass to plastics, which must have a high refractive index and high-heat resistance. Teijin's new PC resin has been shown to achieve a refractive index of nd=1.65 and heat resistance of up to approxi- mately 150 C (302 F). Sales will commence this summer. Teijin is also developing other PCs with even higher refractive index and heat resistance, to be launched later this year. 770-346-8949 • teijinkasei.com MATERIALS I t ' s K T i m e After 3 years we are ready to go again.
