extrusion auxiliaries upgraded Web Portal streamlines color Design & Development small extruders for Medical tubing Color and additive masterbatch compounder PCC (Plastics Color Corp.), Calumet, Ill., has launched the second generation of "Isaac," its web portal and standalone software that helps customers drastically reduce time to market by streamlining the color design and development process. It runs on any operating system, including Apple's iOS and Google's Android systems for tablets, as well as PC and Macintosh computers. This valueadded service allows PCC customers to select from a palette of pre-approved colors and send samples electronically; design a product's color in real-time; and share color story boards with others in their organization. Isaac also provides access to a broad range of information related to all aspects of the customer/vendor relationship, including data services, test results, order status, and regulatory documents. Phase I of Isaac was introduced at the NPE2012 show in Orlando, Fla., and Phase II was launched at the recent Plastec West show in Anaheim, Calif. New capabilities in Phase II include 3D modeling of user-selectable colors onto an object; ability to change lighting types when viewing the object; 360° rotation of the object; color capture via the tablet's rear-facing camera; and export of an image to the user's photo gallery and printing from the gallery. (800) 922-9936 Designed for medical tubing, the Modular Micro Extruder from American Kuhne, Ashaway, R.I., provides the versatility to quickly and easily change barrel and screw diameters and feed-section confgurations. Short residence times on small extruders help minimize resin thermal degradation relative to larger extruders running at very low rpm. The extruders are available in 12, 16, and 19 mm diam. Very low output rates, down to 125 g/hr, can be achieved with standard pellets and granules. Complete micro extrusion systems are available for tight-tolerance single- and multi-layer tubing, fne wire jacketing, and flaments. The extruder can be integrated with the company's AKcess touchscreen control systems, AK-u-Tube spiralfow crossheads, AK-u-Cool precision cooling tanks, and AK-u-Pull combination servo puller/cutter controls.
