Medical TPE Compounds Debut Colorite, a division of Tekni-Plex Co., Wayne, Pa., has introduced a line of styrenic TPE compounds for medical devices. Cellene TPEs use FDA-compliant ingredients to meet USP Class VI and ISO 10993 standards. Spanning a wide range of Shore durometers, these compounds are offered as alternatives to PVC and rubber. They are designed for injection molding and extrusion and include high-clarity grades and ones tailored for low migration and drug absorption. 908-720-5391 • tekni-plex.com/colorite The Search is Over! One was Styrolux 4G60, a clear styrenic block copolymer (SBC) for drip chambers in IV sets. It provides a balance of stiffness and flexibility, providing squeezability plus resistance to cracking. It has Shore A hardness of 97 and Shore D hardness of 42. Second, Novodur HD M203FC G3 is a glass-filled ABS that's said to be the first of its kind to be certified according to the biocompatibility standard ISO10993. Aimed at IV spikes and surgical applica- tions, it boasts significantly increased stiffness (flexural modulus of 5100 MPa, 739,500 psi) combined with high flow and good surface quality. It was developed in cooperation with its first commercial user, Fleima-Plastic, part of Masterflex Group (fleima-plastic.de), a German molder of ABS spikes and caps. In addition, Ineos Styrolution high- lighted the expansion of its SBC offerings, including medical grades, with the addition of the K-Resin line, acquired from Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. last year. 630-820-9500 • ineos-styrolution.com New Soft & Hard Materials for Medical Disposables MATERIALS Single-Dose Purge Compounds For All Processing Applications Called QuickShots, a line of single- dose purging compounds from iD Additives, Inc., LaGrange, Ill., comes in individual packets that operators simply drop into the feed throat or hopper of their machine. They are said to work with all resin types on all plastics processing machinery. Typical dosage is 1 oz/in. screw diam. No soaking or temperature adjustments are necessary. The purges are said to be FDA compliant and environmentally safe. 708-588-0081 • idadditives.com MATERIALS 80 SEPTEMBER 2017 Plastics Technology PTonline.com Keeping Up W it h Technolog y
